Jatiluwih Rice Terrace
Four of us ride motorbike by our self, start from my village, Penatahan, to the Rice Terrace. We took the shortcut, but the road was worse than the last time, so we drive pretty slow. I've been to this rice terrace many times, almost everytime friends of mine come to visit me. We stop n taking some picture here, it was hot in the middle of day.
We have to continue the journey to the waterfall. I never been there before, but the pictures looks nice and we have to pass that area. According to google map, they showed there is a shortcut from Gitgit area to Sekumpul. So we have to pass Bedugul area first, then going up and down to Gitgit area. Yep, i found the shortcut, it used to be a nice road long time ago. But now is just like a rocky river, and it was raining. Some bridge are broken, they built an emergency bridge from woods which is not really sturdy. In one of the bridge, i have to ask Sergey to help me. I'm short so i couldn't stand on the ground while driving. lol
Sekumpul is the highest n most beautiful waterfall in Bali. If u come by motorbike, just drive down the path until the ticket box. Just have to be carefully because it might be slippery in rainy season. After buy the ticket, less than 1$, we have to walk down to the waterfall area.
After hundreds downstairs, we have to cross the river. Can be danger in rainy season, glad we have 2 guys to help the girls. There are 2 area of waterfalls, the first area is on the left side, pretty easy go to there.
The other area, is on the right side after we cross the river downstairs. On the way along the river, we have to cross few times. There are some small waterfalls before the 3 big one. Unfortunately its hard to take pictures because of the wind blows all the water to us. Fresh and cold!
First waterfall on the left side, nice rock's pattern and slow current.
Third waterfall on the right side, behind the big rock, is the strongest current. We will be die for sure if try to play with that. But stand up on the side and enjoying the spray is fun.
We enjoying this waterfalls area, but we have to go as the main plan is Mt. Agung and that still far. From the parking area, we heading to the north. We stop in a market for dinner and ask about the road. They said we can go to Sangsit. So Im using GPS in my phone to help us, as that is already dark. After found the main road of North Bali, we discus about take a rest tonight and then go to climb tomorrow.
We stop in a resto near by the sea, they allowed us to sleep in the bungalow. We also can use the bathroom and buy some drinks. The next day we heading to Kubu, stop for breakfast and buy some water and snacks. From Kubu we heading up to a village. This is the crazy thing, we don't know where exactly the start point. So we just asking local, first guy said keep going until the end of the road. We doing what he said, the end of the road there is a small temple, the boarder to the jungle. We meet some more locals but they say can't go to the top from here. Have to go to another village, separate buy a deep river.
So we go back down, go to another village and ask more people. They said yes we can keep going, but the road will be bad. Well, yesterday we did bad road, so lets keep going. About one kilometer bad road, we found a small temple, and the road became smaller. Igor decided to stop and parking motorbike here. We make our own start point, yuhuu!
We keep going up to the top, i can check it from my phone. First part was easy, just follow a path, still many trees surrounding. Second part is more dry, there are some branch, but we keep following Igor as he is a professional hiker. We take a break for some minutes, and going to the top again. The view is nice as we are high, but rain start so we walk slower.
The next part is grasses road, Igor just open a path for us. Some of the grasses are as high as me. Sometimes i couldn't see Igor and Sergey who walk pretty far from me and Roma. They even give us surprise, yeah perfect place to play 'hide and seek' game. Lucky that we not meeting any danger animals here.
Next part is already high, we walking on sands and rocks, pretty steep, there are not so many grasses and trees to hold. The sun goes down and the weather getting colder, but the rain stopped already. Igor, as the leader decided to stop and make a camp for tonight. The top is not so far, so we might be can catch the sunrise tomorrow.
But the problem is we just bring 2 hammocks, but no trees to hanging. We didn't bring any tend, even if we do, all the place are too steep, no flat to build a tend. Igor found a big space, enough for 2 peoples. but we are four. Not so much choice, so we using the hammock as a roof, we sit on the rocky ground. All of us are wet, its really cold! Lucky im, i have big Sergey and Roma besides me. Igor sleep outside with his sleeping bag, and he is the only one who can sleep.
It was bad worst night ever in my life. I been slept in a tend on the beach, on the floor, on the floor of economic train which is many peoples walk by, in bus station which is many thief. But this one is horrible, so cold, wet, small space, sit on the rocky ground.
Well i have no choice, we wake up later than the sun, and its cloudy. We packing all the stuff and going up.
The last part is the harder, we have to do free climbing and walking on not stable ground. I was so scare, once we reach the rim, i just sit and taking pictures. The wind is too strong that makes me feel like will blow me away. I forgot to take picture of me!!
Here is the video i take on the top.
I got so many great and crazy experience, thank you so much for Igor.
Next time i will not take the route from Gitgit to Sekumpul, and hike the Mt. Agung via Kubu.
